February 26 11, 2014: A new bar, Argohorax, just opened with rock music, vegan food, cheap beer and free boquitas (snacks). It's on the same street as the bus terminal, Santa Lucia, across from the San J eronimo ruins.
January 25, 2014: There's a new barbecue joint in town, Pappy's BBQ on Fifth Street.
December 11, 2013: Actor Morgan Freeman was hanging out at Ocelot Bar last night.
December 4, 2013: Jungle Party Hostel is closed for remodeling. There's a new hostel called La Terrazza on Third Street, near Parque Central. Bar El Chaman is no longer in business.
Tu Pina Tambien now has a big brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM-5 PM. Entrees include Eggs Benedict, Blueberry Pancakes, Fried Chicken, Breakfast Pizza, Beer and Ilegal Mezcal.
November 7, 2012: Another earthquake struck in the same area off the Pacific coast on Sunday, November 11. Over 100 aftershocks of the big one four days have occurred. Nearly 10,000 homes have been damaged and 20,000 people are homeless. The National Palace in Guatemala City reports some damage as a result of the quake.November 7, 2012: The 7.5 earthquake today happened about five hours from Antigua on the Pacific coast. August 21 , 2012: Many Guatemalans are in town celebrating the annual August Fiestas, which take place around Guatemala. International tourists also abound.
July 28 , 2012: The road to La Antigua from Guatemala City is being repaved, and the alternate route takes longer. This is expected to last into September.
