Italian Restaurants at Lake Atitlan: Fata Morgana in San Pedro

italian dining restaurant san pedro atitlanWhat’s the most important part of any sandwich? The bread, because it is the one ingredient found in all sandwiches.

And it’s the bread that makes the sandwiches at Fata Morgana stand out: big, soft, tasty focaccia bread that is baked fresh every morning in the restaurant. You can also buy baguettes to make your own sandwiches at home.

After three years in business at the same location near the Pana dock in San Pedro, Fata has made some changes. They are now open for breakfast and lunch from 8 AM-2 PM.

Sandwiches, Pizza, Focaccia

Fata serves up a huge ham and cheese sandwich. The ham is right up there in quality with the bread, nothing like what you get in the local tiendas.

They make the town’s only pesto sandwich (with extra virgin olive oil) for vegetarians. And for breakfast, egg sandwiches on the same focaccia bread. You can still get slices of pizza and focaccia to go or eat in the restaurant.

Italian-roasted Coffee, Expresso, Capuccino

If you are looking for a real Italian espresso or capuccino, the coffee - locally grown and Italian-roasted on the premises - is one of Fata Morgana’s top attractions and the best in San Pedro.

Fata is the perfect place to sip a cup while people-watching from the ground floor. The palapa terrace offers more privacy and a smoking area.Orange juices and other juices are made fresh on the spot. They also have domestic and Mexican beer.

Dinner is served from 5-10 PM. Hand-made Gnocchi and other pastas come with classic and original sauces by Chef Alfredo. You may dine downstairs or upstairs. These are some of the town's top dinners, not to be missed during your San Pedro vacation.

Cody and Andrew, the new management, were extensively trained by the founders of the restaurant in coffee roasting, bread making and other facets of the kitchen. They have added mocaccino (made with their home-made chocolate), carrot juice and shots of ginger juice to the menu. Smoothies and fruit salads are coming soon. The quality remains high, and the service attentive and friendly.

In the zona viva just a few steps from the Pana dock, Fata Morgana is one of the San Pedro restaurants that you do not want to miss. Open from 8 AM-2 PM, closed on Wednesdays.
